The Day of the Groundhog

So it has been a VERY long time since I have written on this wonderful blog of mine and I know my one and only follower has been waiting for this day….

Today is February 3, 2011, not a very special day but yesterday is what I am going to talk about. Yesterday was the day of the groundhog. Yes, yesterday is when everyone sits on the edges of their seat and await Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction. If you don’t know already he did not see his shadow so supposedly there is going to be an early spring but we shall see if that happens. Groundhog day actually comes from the German culture, who would have thought that right!? Well they had a tradition that if the sun comes out on Candlemas, the hedgehog or badger will see its shadow and there will be six more weeks of winter. Some of these Germans came to America and settled in Pennsylvania and continued this tradition. The first official Groundhog Day was February 2, 1886 in Punxsutawney, PA. Little did we know this would continue for centuries. Now this day is a spectacle, there are celebrations, entertainment, and lots of people. I don’t know why people would want to travel from miles and miles away just to wait for a groundhog to come out and see his shadow or not see his shadow. How do you even know that it is the real Punxsutawney Phil? I have researched this exact question and I bet you didn’t expect this; Phil actually lives in a climate-controlled home at the Punxsutawney Library. He is taken to Gobbler's Knob and placed in a heated burrow underneath a simulated tree stump on stage before being pulled out at 7:25 am on Groundhog Day, February 2, to make his prediction. I KNOW! This groundhog is like a zoo animal and is probably trained by his owners, they probably tell him when and when not to see his shadow. Now that I know this information, I cannot believe that Groundhog Day is really official it is just another normal day out of the year. I will never believe one of Phil’s predictions again because he is being coerced into seeing or not seeing his shadow. This may seem extreme, “being coerced or forced” to see his shadow but you just never know. I hope that I have informed you enough about this day of the groundhog and how it really isn’t a day at all…

P.S. Even though Phil isn’t that great the town of Punxsutawney is pretty cool, even if there are statues of Phil everywhere. If you are driving through one time, stop check it out, they have some really awesome ice cream :)

Silly bandzzzz

Ok so have you guys ever heard of silly bandz?? Well they are the new craze and at first I thought they were stupid because you can't even see the shape when they are on your wrist. But I have grown to love them and I suggest everyone getting them. Personally I have Disney Princess shapes and I have a tinkerbell. But I plan to get more :)

Nothing really.....

I don't really have much to say or write about which is why it has been so long since I have posted. But it is finally feeling like summer time. The pools are open, the temperature is a risen', and it is time to have some fun in the sun. :) Summer concerts are rolling through, I just saw Taylor Swift and she was AMAZING, I would love to see her again! And I am looking forward to the rest of the summer!

P.S. Today my new baby cousin was born, her name is Natasha Lynn Suchar, I haven't seen her yet but I am sure she is cute.

Taking Things For Granted......

When you're little you never think that your parents or your grandparents are just going to be gone one day. You think that they will be there forever and that you will never grow up. Even as you grow up, you still have the mind set that there is no need to worry nothing is going to happen to your loved ones. You take for granted that one day that they wont be there and you will be on your own. Well I definitely took for granted that my Gram would be here forever. I at least thought she would still be here until I get married. But I got a rude awakening when my parents told me that my one and only Gram could have throat cancer. And of course throat cancer is not the type of cancer you want to have. We don't know for sure if she has it yet but the doctors are leaning that way and I am not ready to here the words saying,"Yes, Gram has cancer." Those are words you never want to here from anyones mouth, I think it's too early for my Gram to leave and I am not ready for her to go. I just pray that she doesn't have cancer and even if she does I will never take a day for granted with her or with any of my family. For now I will just pray that she doesn't have it and if the day comes saying she does I will deal with it again. This just teaches me not to take anything for granted because you never know when something or someone will be taken away from you.

Sweet Summer Time

Haven't posted in a while because I have been super busy but i thought these lyrics would be appropriate...

School's out and the nights roll in
Man, just like a long lost friend
You ain't seen in a while
And can't help but smile

And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo bottle on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along 'cause it's one we know
It's a smile, it's a kiss
It's a sip of wine, it's summertime
Sweet summertime

I took this picture while I was at the beach for spring break and it just reminds me of how much I love the beach and how relaxing it is to be there. I just can't wait for summer to come along :)

Appreciation

Have you ever just looked around and just wondered how all of beautiful trees, flowers, lakes, oceans, beaches have come about. I was at the beach today and I was just wondering how a beach was made, if it was man-made or if it has been here since the beginning of time. I think it is weird sometimes to think about these things that God made and put on the Earth. Sometimes I think it is good just to stop and look around you and take everything in. Take in the smell of the ocean, the beauty of the trees and the flowers; I don't think people do it enough. You never know, one day all of this could be gone and we will all be missing it if it does go away. So one day just stop and smell the roses around you.
